2022 International SeaPerch Challenge

We learned a lot over the past two years and combined the best of virtual connectivity with on-site participation at the 2022 International SeaPerch Challenge that took place both virtually and in-person at the University of Maryland, College Park, on June 4, 2022.

*During final score validation, it was determined that Kraken earned Class Champion for High School Stock Class and is recognized as co-champion with ProtoKnight Team 1. Congratulations to our champions!

 

 

Overall rankings were calculated by equally weighting and combining the Engineering Design, Team Video, and Mission Course scores. Obstacle Course scores were used for tie-breaking purposes.

Sportsmanship Award:

Neptune 3D from New Zealand

This award recognizes individuals or teams who demonstrate a commitment to fair play, ethical behavior and integrity, and general goodwill towards others. Recipients of this award may be coaches, team members, parents, officials or anyone else that tournament officials or directors feel exhibit these traits.

 

Resiliency and Grit Award:

Robertsdale High School Navy JROTC from Alabama

As the name implies, this award is given to an individual or team who displays the capacity to recover quickly from challenges, maintains control of a difficult situation and devises new ways to tackle the problem, and shows courage and resolve or strength of character in solving a problem.

 

Spirit of SeaPerch Award:

Water Striders from Virginia

This award  represents the essence of the SeaPerch program. It is presented to a team or individual who exhibits exceptional creativity, either through some aspect of their ROV, or an extraordinary idea beyond the standard build. This award is a way to acknowledge and encourage creative thinking and risk-taking.

Volunteer and Judge Information

Many volunteers will be needed to make the 2022 International SeaPerch Challenge a success! Consider registering as a volunteer for the day! You’ll get lunch and a t-shirt (on us!), and you’re guaranteed to have a great time! 

If you are interested in having a front-row seat to all the excitement, consider acting as a pool judge to score teams’ performance on the Obstacle Course or the Mission Course!

Spectator Information

Classmates, teachers, mentors, advisors, parents, siblings, and friends may register as spectators for the 2022 International SeaPerch Challenge. 

Spectators should make reservations for accommodations at nearby hotels, if needed. Dorm housing is not available for spectators.

Parking at the Challenge

Parking at the University of Maryland is limited to designated parking areas. On-campus parking in designated parking areas during the competition (Saturday) is free. However, on-campus parking on Friday before 4pm is not free. The cost to park in on-campus parking during these hours is $3 per hour per vehicle and should be paid at the pay station or credit card meter located at each parking lot. 

 

BUSES – If your team will be parking a bus on campus at the University of Maryland please contact Cheri Koch at ckoch@robonation.org to make special parking arrangements.
